A robust and professional social media presence is no longer optional as a job-seeker, salesperson, marketer or community development professional. As a busy young professional, the number of online opportunities to present oneself can be overwhelming. This coming Wednesday, local cross-industry professionals are ready to help.
On January 18th, the community is invited to learn about LinkedIn, one of the most misunderstood and underutilized social media platforms, from a group of experts. Starting at 5pm in the lobby of the Patrick Henry, representatives from Cortex Leadership, Terradin and Bohemian Robot Photography will present about a topic that concerns most young professionals: using LinkedIn to positively impact one’s personal brand.
“I have heard from so many people that LinkedIn is one of the most important ways to make meaningful connections and find your next career step, but to me it’s just a more professional Facebook. I know that’s not accurate, so I am looking forward to learning about some quick and easy ways to sharpen this social media tool,” says CoLab director Ariel Lev.
Hollins Librarian Rebecca Seipp says, “LinkedIn is one of those resources that I've heard about many times, but I'm wary of managing another piece of social media. I have a profile, but I don't really know how to leverage the site for my career.”
The experts speaking at this event aim to change this by providing relevant, easy-to-apply information. Cortex Leadership Consulting uses the network daily and trains clients on best practices. Terradin uses LinkedIn as their primary recruiting tool and will be informing the attendees on the many ways to increase the likelihood of being hired. Bohemian Robot Photography will be on-site to take modern, professional head shots.
